Definition : In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song. Those bits can be any bit of sound – a vocal line, a drum beat, a full string orchestral arrangement.Drummer Clyde Stubblefield, whose musical performance in James Brown’s “Funky Drummer” is widely considered the most heavily sampled and replicated beat in the hip hop world.

These are examples of sampler machines on the map worldwide. I believe that in the list of the first samplers was a device called a Fairlight then came E-mu Systems Emulator widening the circle of musicians who had access to sampling technology. Originally these were in the reach of pop stars, large recording studios and highly paid session musicians but due to the falling prices of RAM and and creation of computers, sampling machines become more accessible. The history of sampling goes as far back as the 70s.
